Too many misconceptions about Medicaid and elder care services
By Christina Drumm-Boyd, Care Connect of Hampton Roads - 7/10/2014
From the Medicaid inquiries our office receives we can tell there is a lot about Medicaid that sons and daughters who are caring for an elderly parent do not know. I hope the following information is helpful to you.
A common misconception is that Medicaid recipients receive sub-par care. This is not true. With appropriate planning, Medicaid can be an extremely useful tool in covering the costs of long-term care at 100%.
And, an applicant can often reside in a top rated care facility and still qualify for Medicaid assistance.
Virginia offers three types of Medicaid:
(1) | Medicaid long-term nursing care. |
(2) | Medicaid auxiliary grant -- for those who are assessed at an assisted living level of care vs. a nursing home level. |
(3) | Medicaid community based care -- for those who are able to stay in their own home with some assistance. |
As you might suspect, the process of applying for Medicaid can be complicated. Our clients count on us to get more money and better care for their loved one by navigating the Medicaid system through our knowledge and established points of contact.
If you have an elderly parent and need help with obtaining Medicaid to help pay for long-term care, a care facility, long-term nursing care, assisted living, or nursing home, and live in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Newport News, Hampton, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Williamsburg, Hampton Roads, North Carolina, Currituck, or the Outer banks, our elder care services company can help.
